FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to the FAQ section of The Angry Vegan Personal Training, where we tackle your burning questions with the same intensity we tackle a set of heavy deadlifts. Think of this as your roadmap to understanding what we're about - no fluff, no fancy jargon, just straight talk. Whether you're curious about what makes our kettlebells swing or how our personal training can turn your fitness goals from daydreams to reality, we've got answers. So, roll up your sleeves, and let's dive into the nitty-gritty of what makes us tick and how we can make you stronger, fitter, and ready to take on the world.

1. What are the health benefits of strength training, especially for individuals over 35?

Strength training is not just for the young. For those over 35, it's a ticket to managing chronic conditions, boosting mental sharpness, and improving metabolic health. Muscles, as they say, aren't just for show; they're for a healthier, sharper life.

2. I'm new to kettlebell training. What are the basics I should know before starting?

Kettlebells, those quirky-looking weights, are your fast track to fitness. It's not just about hoisting them up; it's about technique, form, and a whole lot of grit. Start with understanding the basic moves like swings, squats, and get-ups, and remember, it's not a race, it's a journey.

3. What are the qualifications and experience of the trainers at The Angry Vegan?

At The Angry Vegan, we're not just passionate about fitness; we're seasoned experts in the field. Let's start with Fran: she brings two decades of experience as a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner with the NHS, combined with her qualifications as a Level 2 Gym Instructor and Level 3 Personal Trainer. Her journey in fitness is complemented by five solid years of training and coaching right here at The Angry Vegan.

As for myself, Liam, I've clocked in 18 years as a Level 3 Personal Trainer. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. My toolkit includes certifications as an IKFF Kettlebell Instructor, World Kettlebell Club Instructor, British Weightlifting Coach, and I've also trained under the guidance of Mike Mahler as a Strength Coach. Together, Fran and I ensure that every aspect of your training is underpinned by a wealth of knowledge, expertise, and hands-on experience.

And for your peace of mind, we both carry full Public Liability Insurance. So, when you train with us, you're not just lifting weights – you're being lifted by a foundation of professional excellence and extensive know-how.

4. How does strength training impact joint health and mobility as we age?

Think of strength training as your joint's best friend. It’s about keeping those hinges oiled and ready for action, preventing arthritis and keeping you as mobile as a cat, regardless of the number of candles on your birthday cake.

5. Can strength training help with weight management or weight loss?

Absolutely. It turns your body into a calorie-burning powerhouse. As you build muscle, your resting metabolism gets a boost, meaning you're burning calories even when you're not sweating it out.

6. What safety measures do you implement in your training, particularly for beginners?

Safety first, always. We start with the basics, ensuring your form is spot on. It's not about lifting the heaviest weight on day one; it’s about building up to it safely and sensibly. And remember, any twinge of pain, and we reassess. This is a marathon, not a sprint.

7. How often should I train, and what duration is recommended for someone starting out?

Start with two or three 20 to 30 minute sessions a week if you're at home or in a gym, or two 30 to 45 minute sessions if you're with a coach. It's not about clocking hours; it's about quality over quantity. Consistency is your secret weapon here, not overexertion.

8. Are there specific strength training programs for menopausal women at The Angry Vegan?

Absolutely. Menopause isn't a full stop; it's just another chapter. We tailor programs that address the unique needs of menopausal women, combining Fran's expertise in women's health with strength training to keep you strong, flexible, and full of zest.

9. How does personal training at The Angry Vegan differ from group sessions?

Personal training is your own fitness concerto, with every note tailored to your rhythm. Group sessions, on the other hand, are like being part of an orchestra – there's energy, camaraderie, but with enough personal attention to ensure you're not lost in the crowd.

10. How much is personal training with The Angry Vegan?

Think of it as an investment in yourself. Our personal training sessions start at £30, including the full run of our private gym. And with various packages available, we ensure there's a plan that fits not just your goals but also your wallet. It’s about value, not just price.

11. Can strength training improve mental health and stress management?

Not only does it bolster your body, but it also fortifies your mind. Strength training is a natural stress-buster, giving your mental health as much of a boost as your physical health.
